Calling All Nursing Students

At Lutheran Health Network, we are committed to ongoing learning and development. The Specialty Nursing Fellowship Programs are designed to prepare, train and support the RN to gain the knowledge and specific skills needed for success in their chosen specialty. Each program coincides with the department orientation and is led by highly trained, service line subject matter expert RNs and contains engaging lectures, skills labs, simulation and guest speakers.

Also included are initial core competency packets, EKG competency, ALC lessons, required certifications, and Cerner orientation/competency. The unit- based preceptor is trained to support the program along with resources, including the network service line educators, to provide support on an ongoing basis.

LHN currently has the following Specialty Nursing Fellowship Program tracks:

Hands-on opportunities are available for nurses to to learn their role in the delivery room, assisting with difficult births and caring for both mom and baby.
  • Medical/Surgical and ICU – This fellowship program track begins with the fundamentals of caring for multiple patients in a nursing unit. Both Med/Surg and ICU content includes organizational skills, facility resources and hands-on skills with various nursing tasks, such as ostomy bag changes, wound care and NG tube placement. The ICU fellowship builds further on the nursing skills needed to care for our most critical patients.
  • Emergency – The ED fellowship program track is designed to assist the nurse new to the ED setting to develop a solid foundation to care for a wide variety of patients seen in the ED. Pediatric fellowship uses a combination of classroom, hands-on skills, and simulation.
  • Patient Care Assistant (PCA) – This fellowship program has been developed for entry level healthcare positions to cover the basic care needs of all patient populations and work alongside the nursing team to provide safe, quality care to our patients.
