Discover Enterprise! The City of Enterprise is located in Coffee County, in the south east corner of Alabama. Enterprise is a gateway to the Gulf of Mexico, Fort Rucker Army Base, and home to the world’s only monument to an insect! It has a strong history of growth and progress. Its diversity of people, occupations, lifestyles and interests come together to produce the community spirit that has been passed down for generations.

The Boll Weevil Monument is the most popular attraction in this community. In 1915, property was threatened when the Mexican Boll Weevil wreaked havoc on the cotton crop, eliminating almost 60 percent of all cotton in the city. Farmers faced bankruptcy and the economy was at stake. Farmers turned to peanuts and other crops to overcome the damage done by the Boll Weevil. By 1917, Enterprise was producing and harvesting more peanuts than any other county in our nation. In gratitude for the lessons taught, residents created the Boll Weevil Monument as a symbol of man’s willingness and ability to adjust to adversity.

The Boll Weevil Monument is located in downtown Enterprise and the base of the monument is inscribed “in profound appreciation of the boll weevil and what it has done as the herald of prosperity this monument was erected by the citizens of Enterprise, Coffee County, Alabama”
