Our Communities

From the majestic Pioneer and Twin Peaks in the Chugach Range to the Talkeetna Mountains in Southcentral Alaska, Palmer is framed in breathtaking beauty. Located 42 miles northeast of Anchorage on the Glenn Highway in the Matanuska Valley, the city’s unique history and heritage are unparalleled in the state.

Palmer is the ninth biggest city in Alaska and has an average population of 5,900. The city of Palmer is home to the annual Alaska State Fair. Locals enjoy Friday Fling every Friday of the summer with live music from students and local artists, local food trucks and vendors, and rides. Sporting activities are also common among locals, and the city is home to the baseball team, Mat-Su Miners and The Valley Steelers, a semi pro football team.

The city is also striking, thanks to its unique mixture of farming activities and alpine paradise. It’s also home to excellent mountain peak views, fields of hay, and one of the best year-round climates in the country. The city’s downtown region also has a unique modern ambiance, combined with the appeal of historical buildings. Thanks to a fully functional police force and exceptional community values, safety is also excellent in the city.
